Ukraine neutralizes 20 Russian UAVs on May 7, no missiles or drones on May 8
Ukrainian air defenses shot down 20 of 31 Russian drones attacking from Millerovo between 2:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on May 7, with no missile or drone strikes recorded as of 8:00 a.m. on May 8, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram.
The Russian drones, including decoy UAVs, were launched from Millerovo in Rostov Oblast, with 20 neutralized in northern and central Ukraine and six decoys lost to radar without fallout.
The attack damaged infrastructure in Cherkasy Oblast, though specifics were not detailed.
Overnight, Russian forces used guided aerial bombs on Sumy Oblast, but no further aerial attacks occurred as of 8:00 a.m. May 8.
On May 7, Russian Shahed drones and ballistic missiles killed two and injured six in Kyiv, with debris damaging high-rise buildings in four districts.
Putin's "three-day truce"
On April 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a three-day “ceasefire” from May 8 to May 11 for Victory Day, which Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called a step toward direct talks without preconditions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected the proposal on May 3, insisting on a minimum 30-day ceasefire.
The White House echoed Zelenskyy, stating President Donald Trump supports a 30-day permanent ceasefire, not a three-day pause.
