Motherland party MP Mykhailo Volynets had his criminal case for false asset declaration dropped by the Higher Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

“The statute of limitations for committing a criminal offense that is punishable by a less severe penalty than deprivation of liberty is two years,” said the VAKS.

Volynets has been released from criminal liability.

Journalists from the Schemes investigation project found in April 2021 that Volynets was using a Toyota Highlander SUV that was not listed in his March 2021 declaration. Investigators discovered that the vehicle was registered to Andriy Volynets, the MP’s son.

Volynets provided false information in his e-declaration for 2020, amounting to almost UAH 1.79 million ($67,100) in total. He did not declare two cars that officially belong to his relatives, as well as his civil partner’s income, totaling nearly UAH 95,000 ($3,550), said law enforcement.

The case was brought to court in December 2022.

The MP has been receiving medical treatment since January 30, 2023. He was handed an indictment while in the hospital in November.
