Court keeps suspected traitor Dubinsky in custody
The Kyiv Court of Appeals has upheld pre-trial
detention of Ukrainian MP Oleksandr
Dubinsky on charges of high treason, dismissing an appeal from his defense
team, public broadcaster Suspilne reported on Dec. 7.
After the closed-session hearing, Dubinsky stated that he was “beaten for two consecutive nights” in the detention center. The alleged incident fractured two of his ribs, which, according to him, “effectively constitutes the torture.” In this way, he claims, the prosecution sought to force him to change his testimony.
The information about Dubinsky being beaten in the Kyiv detention center cannot be confirmed, Kyiv Police stated on Dec. 3.
Ukraine’s SBU security service said on Nov. 13 that it had sufficient evidence to charge Dubinsky with high treason. According to the investigation, he spread misinformation about the top military-political leadership of Ukraine, particularly about alleged interference by high-ranking officials in U.S. presidential elections
The special services alleged that the MP, under the alias Buratino (Pinocchio), was a member of a criminal organization controlled by Russian Military Intelligence (GRU).
On Nov. 14, the courts remanded Dubinsky in custody until Jan. 12 without bail. Dubinsky is also suspected of forging documents for foreign travel during wartime.
