Court suspends Klitschko’s deputy charged with corruption
Ukraine’s High Anti-Corruption Court has suspended Petro Olenych, deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration, for two months, Ukrainian journalist Oleh Novikov reported on Feb. 26.
Olenych is suspected of being involved in a corruption scheme concerning land distribution and acquisition in the capital.
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) reported that the deputy mayor abused his power and acted in the interests of a criminal organization. Investigators allege that he controlled and coordinated officials in the Department of Land Resources and the Kyiv Institute of Land Relations, ensuring decisions were made to benefit the organization. Additionally, he reportedly initiated proposals to the Kyiv City Council for projects facilitating these corrupt schemes.
Olenych, alongside nine others, including former Kyiv City councilman Denys Komarnytskyi, has been charged with running a criminal organization that illegally acquired land in Kyiv worth over UAH94 million ($2.26 million).
On Feb. 7, the court ordered Olenych’s pre-trial detention for two months. On Feb. 21, he was released after posting bail of UAH15 million ($360,000).
