A tanker carrying Russian diesel that was bound for Cuba
changed its destination to Trinidad and Tobago after the U.S. Treasury said the
island is barred from receiving Russian fuel, Bloomberg reported
on March 20.
Bloomberg identified the vessel as the Sea Horse, which it said was likely carrying about 200,000 barrels of Russian diesel. On March 20 the ship updated its declared destination to Trinidad and Tobago, according to shipping data cited by the report.
The tanker previously halted its voyage in the middle of the North Atlantic last month, when the United States announced its “de facto fuel blockade of the island.”
Another tanker, the Anatoliy Kolodkin, was still sailing across the Atlantic toward the port of Matanzas, Cuba, according to shipping data.
A Kremlin official declined to confirm whether Russian fuel
was headed to Cuba. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, told reporters that
Moscow “maintains constant contact with Cuban leadership” and is exploring ways
to assist Havana with the current energy crisis.
