Days left to evacuate Myrnohrad, official warns
Residents of Myrnohrad, Donetsk Oblast, have just several days to leave the city before it’s directly threatened by advancing Russian troops, Acting Head of the Myrnohrad Military Administration Yuriy Tretyak told RFE/RL on Aug. 19.
“If Pokrovsk has around two weeks, according to estimates, Myrnohrad doesn't even have that,” said Tretyak.
“Myrnohrad has just a few days, maybe one, two, or three. We've been experiencing artillery shelling for the past three days.”
He noted that following a decision by the Donetsk Oblast Defense Council, he decided to evacuate the city's institutions and businesses and ordered the closure of shops and markets. According to him, stores and pharmacies have already begun to shut down.
“I urge all residents near the front line, especially families with children and those with limited mobility, to evacuate as soon as possible to safer regions of Ukraine,” Tretyak added.
Earlier on Aug. 19, the Head of the Pokrovsk Military Administration, Serhiy Dobriak, urged Pokrovsk residents to evacuate, stating that they have around two weeks left before enemy troops reach city limits.
