Denmark pledges $630 million to bolster Ukraine's defense through local arms purchases

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, along with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov and Strategic Industry Minister Herman Smetanin, signed a protocol on Sept. 29 to continue arms purchases through Ukraine’s defense industry, totaling about DKK 4.2 billion, according to Denmark’s Ministry of Defense.
“It is important that we continue to support Ukraine's struggle for freedom in every way possible, so I am very glad that Denmark has agreed with Ukraine on the framework for utilizing the 4.2 billion Danish kroner ($629 million) provided by the EU and Denmark,” Poulsen said.
The purchases will be financed by 1.3 billion Danish kroner ($194.6 million) allocated by the Danish government and 2.9 billion Danish kroner ($434.2 million) from frozen Russian assets managed by Denmark on behalf of the EU.
By the end of 2024, the plan includes delivering Ukrainian-made weapons and equipment to the front, financed by Denmark.
Poulsen is in Kyiv ahead of the International Forum of Defense Industries, which will run from October 1 to 5.
In June, Ukraine and Denmark signed a memorandum to purchase weapons and equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers.
