Denmark to aid Ukraine with satellite communications
Denmark will provide the Ukrainian military with satellite communication services through the European Defense Agency (EDA), Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced on July 14.
Poulsen made the statement during a visit to Kyiv, shortly after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Space is an area that increasingly requires attention in defense policy,” said the minister.
“In close cooperation with the European Defence Agency, Denmark is now helping to strengthen Ukraine’s satellite communications in its defense against Russia. Space-based solutions have tremendous potential to enhance the defense capabilities of Ukraine, Denmark, and Europe.”
Under the initiative, Ukraine’s military will receive access to hardened satellite communication terminals. Danish officials said the terminals will “significantly support Ukraine’s ability to continue its fight for freedom against Russia’s illegal invasion” by ensuring reliable and secure communications vital for military operations.
The EDA expects other European Union countries to follow Denmark’s example by considering similar projects for Ukraine.
On June 24, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Poulsen signed a letter of intent in The Hague to establish joint defense manufacturing in Denmark.
On July 4, Ukraine’s Ministry of Strategic Industries announced that Ukrainian defense companies would soon open production facilities in Denmark.
