Despite a large-scale brain drain from Belarus due to political repressions, Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko still dreams of scientific and technological progress in the country, he said on Oct. 18.
This time he spoke about domestic drones, the need for which became apparent in the context of the Russian war against Ukraine.
While meeting with the chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Vladimir Gusakov, the Belarus dictator announced his desire to create the first Belarusian drone.
"What is very relevant, we will talk about it on Friday, is our drones," he said.
"Can you create new unmanned aerial vehicles, competing with applied science and other enterprises? They are top-priority, given the lessons of the war in Ukraine."
Early, he boasted about the first computer produced in Belarus, though he neglected to mention that about 90% of its components are foreign-made.
Additoonally, a “new model” of a Belarusian motorcycle was presented, that turned out to be a Chinese-made copy of France’s Mash X-Ride Classic 650 motorcycle.
