‘Under control’ — Though ablaze after RU attack, no threat of breach at Ukraine’s largest hydro dam
There is no threat to Ukraine’s largest hydroelectric power station in Zaporizhzhya, even though it could be seen ablaze following an attack by Russian forces early on March 22, Ukrainian hydropower operator Ukrhydroenergo reported on March 22 on Telegram.
There is not threat to the dam’s integrity, Ukrhydroenergo said.
Emergency services and energy technicians are addressing the situation on-site.
"There is no threat of a breach,” Ukrhydroenergo stated.
“The situation at the station's dam is under control."
The company emphasized that the attack appears to be Russia's latest attempt to provoke an environmental disaster following the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP.
The Russians had struck the Dnipro HPP dam, hitting a passenger trolleybus with people on board, Mariupol mayor's adviser Petro Andriushchenko reported on March 22.
Authorities have announced a complete halt to traffic across the Dnipro HPP.
