Russian drone barrage strikes Sumy, targeting homes and infrastructure

Russian forces carried out a massive drone attack on the Ukrainian city of Sumy early on Oct. 21, the regional military administration reported on Telegram.

Residential areas and critical infrastructure facilities of the administrative center were targeted.

The extent of the damage is being assessed. Emergency rescue operations are underway. 

According to an earlier report by the Ukrainian Air Force, 59 of 119 Russian Shahed attack drones were shot down overnight. Forty-five others were disabled by electronic warfare (EW).

This follows an earlier report by Zaporizhzhya Oblast governor on the same day about a Russian missile strike on a kindergarten in the densely populated area of the administrative center which injured at least seven people.
