Explosions rock occupied Kerch, shut Crimean bridge

30 June 2025, 06:36 AM

A series of overnight explosions and gunfire in the Russian-occupied Crimean city of Kerch were reported by the Crimean Wind Telegram channel early on June 30.

Traffic on the Crimean Bridge, which connects the occupied Ukrainian peninsula with mainland Russia, was shut down in response to a drone attack, and Russian military helicopters were scrambled from the nearby Kacha airfield.

The attack likely targeted a civilian airport in Kerch that Russian forces recently converted into a military airfield to launch drones against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry did not report the attack on Crimea, but claimed  the “destruction” of 15 drones over Kursk Oblast and the Sea of Azov.

On June 3, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced it had carried out the third successful attack on the Russian-built Crimean Bridge. Ukrainian agents planted explosives on the bridge’s underwater support structures, with the first detonation occurring at 4:44 a.m. local time. No civilian casualties were reported.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
