Overnight explosions rock Moscow and Smolensk
A drone attack and a series of five to eight explosions were reported by residents of the Russian city of Smolensk shortly after midnight on Sep. 12, according to the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.
One of the city's gas stations caught fire.
Local authorities have not commented on the overnight attack yet.
That same night, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed that air defenses allegedly shot down at least nine drones that were flying toward the Russian capital.
“Emergency services are on the crash site,” he wrote.
Russian air defenses were operating near Naro-Fominsk, Kubinka, Volokolamsk, and Zelenograd.
Earlier that day, Leningrad Oblast Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported a fire on one of the ships after an overnight drone attack on Primorsk, Russia's largest oil port.
