Drones strike Syzran oil refinery and tanker, sparking fires in Russia

Drones struck several Russian-controlled sites, including the Syzran oil refinery in Russia's Samara Oblast and a tanker in the Don-Azov Canal, sparking fires at both locations, according to Russian officials, OSINT analysts and local reports on July 12.
According to preliminary reports, the Syzran oil refinery was attacked by FP-1 drones. OSINT analysts suggest the strike may have damaged the ELOU-AVT-5 crude oil processing unit, which accounts for up to 30% of the refinery's primary oil processing capacity.
Local residents posted videos showing a fire at the refinery. Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the attack or disclosed the extent of any damage.
The Syzran refinery, owned by Rosneft, is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia's Samara Oblast. It processes between 7 million and 8.5 million metric tons of crude oil annually and produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and liquefied petroleum gases.
Meanwhile, Rostov Oblast Gov. Yury Slyusar said drones attacked a tanker in the Don-Azov Canal. According to him, the vessel was empty, and the fire that broke out after the strike was contained. No casualties have been reported.
The Russian official also claimed that air defenses shot down more than 20 drones over Rostov Oblast overnight.
The strike marked at least the third attack on the Syzran refinery this year. The facility was previously targeted on April 18 and May 21. Reuters, citing sources, later reported that the refinery suspended operations on May 25 because of damage sustained in the attacks.
