A series of powerful explosions rocked the Russian city of Volgograd during an overnight drone attack on the Lukoil oil refinery, the Astra Telegram channel reported early on Feb. 11, sharing eyewitnesses’ photos and videos of a massive fire at the facility.

The blasts were heard in several districts and suburbs of the city.

The Russian Federal Aviation Authority, Rosaviatsia, imposed temporary flight restrictions at the Volgograd International Airport.

Regional Governor Andrey Bocharov confirmed the attack, stating that a fire broke out “on the territory of the plant in the south of Volgograd,” though he did not specify the facility.

According to the Astra, the drones targeted the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery in the Krasnoarmeyskyi district, sparking a fire at the site.

This is at least the ninth attack on the facility since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It is the largest refinery in Volgograd Oblast and one of Lukoil’s key assets. It processes more than 15 million tons of oil annually. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and other petroleum products.
