Dutch Defense Minister visits Ukraine
Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren made an unannounced visit to Ukraine on June 10, Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal reported via Facebook.
Shmyhal and Ollongren discussed bilateral technology exchanges, joint defense manufacturing, the upcoming Global Peace Summit in Switzerland, and Ukraine's EU and NATO integration.
The PM thanked the Dutch government for enhancing Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly for advocating transfers of Patriot SAM batteries to Kyiv. He added that Ukraine is expecting deliveries of F-16 aircraft from the Netherlands and other partners later this year.
Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov also met with Ollongren. They discussed F-16s, military cooperation, the development of Ukraine's defense enterprises, and the Netherlands' purchases of weapons for Ukraine. Umerov urged financing the manufacture of weapons directly in Ukraine.
Previously, Ollongren said that Ukraine could use the 24 F-16s to be provided by the Netherlands for strikes on Russian territory.
In late May, the Dutch Defense Ministry announced that the Netherlands would deliver additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine as soon as possible.
