Efforts to arrange Iran war ceasefire stall, report says

Pakistan-led attempts by several regional mediators to
arrange ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran
have “hit a dead end,” The Wall Street Journal reported
on April 3.
“Iran has officially told the mediators it isn’t willing to meet U.S. officials in Islamabad in the coming days and that U.S. demands are unacceptable, the mediators said,” the WSJ writes.
Earlier, Iran said it would stop the fighting only if the United States paid reparations, withdrew forces from bases in the Middle East, and provided guarantees it would not attack again. Additionally, Tehran expects any future ceasefire deal to recognize Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
The Wall Street Journal added that Turkey and Egypt are still pushing to arrange talks. Possible venues under consideration include Doha and Istanbul.
The New York Times reported March 25, citing
diplomatic sources, that the United States sent Iran a 15‑point
plan for ending the war in the Middle East through Pakistan. Officials said the
plan’s broad provisions address Iran’s ballistic missile program and nuclear capabilities.
