Russian marines near Vuhledar, Donetsk Oblast, suffered serious losses, and the Russian command decided to replenish those losses with inexperienced conscripts, UK military intelligence reported on Twitter on Feb. 26.
The service has published satellite image from the Vuhledar axis showing destroyed Russian equipment – likely elements of Russia’s 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, the service notes.
This brigade is considered an elite force in Russia. However, unlike the airborne infantry (VDV), another force considered to be among the Russian military elite, the 155th Brigade has not been deployed in Ukraine as a single large group.

UK intelligence states that Russian marines have performed some of the most difficult tactical tasks and have suffered enormous losses. However, the conscripts sent to replenish this unit are not suited to replicate those tasks.
"This lack of experience is almost certainly exacerbating Russian officers’ tendency to micromanage, which in turn reduces operational agility," the report reads.
“There is a realistic possibility that degraded NI units will again be committed to new assaults near Vuhledar.”
The UK believes that the Russian invasion forces may soon launch another offensive near Vuhledar. However, they are unlikely to have enough resources to do so successfully.
