Estonian convicted for attacking Ukrainian veteran in Narva
A resident of Narva, Estonia, was convicted for attacking a Ukrainian veteran at a Fama shopping center in early March, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported on April 8.
The incident occurred as the veteran, wearing a military uniform with Ukrainian insignia and carrying a cane, was leaving the shopping center. Witnesses said the assailant first hurled insults at the veteran before pushing him and attempting to tear the insignia from his jacket. The attack left the Ukrainian with a dislocated knee.
The victim, along with several other veterans of the Russo–Ukrainian war, were in Narva at the invitation of members of Kaitseliit, Estonia’s volunteer national defense organization.
The court imposed a suspended ten-month prison sentence on the attacker. He must also pay a fine and legal fees totaling EUR1,177 ($1,290).
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
