EU sanctions to target Russian drone manufacturing

European Union officials are preparing new sanctions
targeting companies involved in producing components for Russia’s Shahed
kamikaze drones, German media reported on July 2.
EU’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas initiated the effort in response to repeated Russian attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, German news agency DPA told broadcaster n-tv, citing a source at the European External Action Service. The source said the measures could affect five legal entities and one individual involved in developing and manufacturing components for the drones.
Earlier on July 2, Russia struck Kyiv with 74 missiles of various types and nearly 500 drones. At least 23 civilians were killed in Kyiv, with most of the casualties caused by enemy missiles hitting residential high-rises.
Later the same day, Kallas said she would propose a new
package of sanctions against Russia. “Words of condemnation alone are not
enough to stop the attacks on Kyiv. Only sustained military support for Ukraine
and increased pressure on Moscow can do that,” she said. Kallas added she would
seek sanctions against additional actors that support Russia’s defense industry
“in response to the strikes.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
