Kyiv Court closes Euromaidan case against Berkut officers
A Kyiv court has closed the case of ex-Berkut riot police members Vadym Betlii and Oleg Kozachyshyn for their role in the violent dispersal of Maidan protesters on November 30, 2013 due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, as reported by the Advocacy Advisory Group on Facebook.
They specified that the case was closed on Dec 12.
The victim's representative, Oksana Mikhalevich, filed an appeal against this decision saying that the court failed to properly evaluate the case.
The case agains the former Berkut officers has been transferred between various Kyiv courts over the previous years.
On December 4, 2023, the accused were supposed to be interrogated in the Dnipro district court. This is the final stage before the debate in the case. However, the prosecution filed a motion to close the case due to the expiry of the statute of limitations - 10 years from the moment of the Maidan crackdown.
According to the investigation, in 2013 Vadym Betlii and Oleg Kozachyshyn were policemen of the 1st branch of the 2nd platoon of the 4th operational company of the Kyiv Berkut. They were accused of carrying out a criminal order, based on a prior conspiracy.
