Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi has appointed former Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko the commander of an attack drone platoon, Lutsenko’s press secretary Larysa Sargan wrote on Facebook on Feb. 22.

“By the order of the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of Feb. 20, 2023, Captain Yu. V. Lutsenko was appointed the commander of an attack drone platoon of military unit No. ... of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” she said.

“Today, we turned from a territorial defense unit into a full-fledged brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Lutsenko told the Priamyi television channel on Feb. 22.

“And I’m just a captain, a platoon commander from today. My career is finally going right (after) 30 years.”

In an interview with the Ukrainian news outlet Babel in late December 2022, Lutsenko said that he had joined the territorial defense forces at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and served in the 206th battalion until August.

To date, he said, he is serving in an air reconnaissance platoon in the town of Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast.
