Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, bordering Ukraine, has suffered “two strong explosions”, the regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced early on May 2 via Telegram messenger. No casualties or damage are reported.

"Footage of flashes in the sky has already appeared on social media,” Gladkov wrote.

“The most important thing is that there are no casualties or damage. I will try to clarify the rest of the information in the morning.”

During the afternoon of May 1, eyewitnesses reported a series of explosions of unknown origin in the border city of Belgorod in Russia. Local authorities said that a fire had broken out at a Russian Defense Ministry facility.
