Explosions rock suburbs of occupied Tokmak, Russian involvement unclear
Two explosions were reported in the suburbs of the occupied city of Tokmak in Zaporizhzhya Oblast on Oct. 19, Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov reported on Telegram.
No further details have been provided at this time.
It remains unclear whether Russian occupiers were involved or if there were any casualties among the Russian military.
In late September, Estonian intelligence released a report indicating that Russian occupiers were strengthening their defenses in Tokmak and establishing new defensive positions along the route to Berdyansk in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
Russian occupiers in Zaporizhzhya Oblast are concerned about losing the strategically important Tokmak, prompting them to bolster their defenses in the vicinity of the Ukrainian city, Oleksandr Shtupun, the Tavria front defense forces spokesperson, said on Sept. 28.
On the same day, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet crashed in the Tokmak area.
