The Armed Forces of Ukraine have struck the positions of Russian troops at an airfield in occupied Melitopol for the fifth time, blasting the command post, announced the adviser to the head of the President's Office Oleksiy Arestovych on April 10.
He compared the success of the Ukrainian military with a similar operation at an airfield in the village of Chornobayivka near the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson. There, the Russian military were hit about 15 times, and the settlement itself became a kind of meme epitomizing the failures of the invading army.
“Melitopol is gradually becoming Chornobayivka. Today we blasted the Melitopol airfield, along with a command post — it was exploding for two hours. Such a welcome sight,” Arestovych said.
He stressed that the city and the local airfield are an important transportation hub for the Russian military, marking it as a site of strategic important.
“Melitopol, after all, is the key central hub: the airport, railway, and road communications. A stronghold [of the Russians], providing communications for Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Mariupol. The central junction,” Arestovych explained.
“And in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, there's always something going on, little by little: one village is liberated, then another. Not through a counteroffensive, but tactical actions. And these actions do not allow [the Russians] to successfully advance in the south.”
