Russian troops advance near Sumy, drone strikes expected
Russian forces continue their push deeper into Ukraine's Sumy Oblast, with analysts from the DeepState monitoring group reporting on June 7 that its troops have approached within 20 kilometers of the city of Sumy near Mala Korchakivka.
Russian invasion forces have fully captured the settlements of Kindrativka and Oleksiyivka, where they are amassing infantry and moving towards the towns of Khotin and Mala Korchakivka.
"In this area, Russian forces have managed to get within a 20-kilometer range of Sumy, which could lead to FPV drone strikes on the city once appropriate crews are deployed and if there's no effective counteraction from our side," DeepState noted.
Additionally, the situation is critical along the Novomykolaivka-Varachyne-Yablunivka-Yunakivka line, where Russian troops have closely approached these villages, attempting to seize them entirely. Near Loknia, the Russian troops are advancing towards Sadky, a position from which they would be very difficult to dislodge, according to DeepState.
Analysts have observed that the Russian military has concentrated significant forces in Sumy Oblast, with Russian infantry seemingly "endless." The enemy is using motorcycles for logistics and actively deploying drones.
On June 2, Ukraine's State Border Guard Service reported that Russian forces are expanding the zone for infantry operations in Sumy Oblast. The U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War also noted increased efforts by Russian troops to expand the front line in northern Sumy Oblast.
As of June 5, DeepState reported that Russian forces had captured 10 settlements in Sumy Oblast.
DeepState analyst Roman Pohorilyi mentioned that Russia is continuously deploying infantry for attacks, and Ukrainian forces are struggling to counter the relentless assaults, describing the enemy as "swarming like cockroaches."
