A fuel depot at the port of Primorsk in Russia’s Leningrad region has been burning for a second day after a Ukrainian drone attack, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Russian service reported on March 24.
Thick smoke from the fire is visible in satellite images despite heavy cloud cover.
Overnight into March 23, drones from Ukraine’s Security Service and other Defense Forces units attacked Russia’s largest oil port on the Baltic Sea in Primorsk.
Local authorities reported the “interception” of 60 drones in Leningrad Oblast and a fire at the port.
Ukraine’s General Staff said the strike hit a tank farm and oil-loading infrastructure.
About 60 million tons of oil pass through the Primorsk port annually, with a significant share of shipments linked to Russia’s shadow fleet.
Reuters, citing sources, reported that in the Baltic Sea, Russia’s ports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga temporarily halted the transshipment of crude oil and oil products following the drone attack.
