Blaze erupts at Donetsk University, suspected base for Russian forces
A fire erupted at Donetsk National Technical University (DonNTU), which Russian forces are thought to be using as a base, local publication Novyny Donbasu or ND reported on Dec. 21.
The center of Russian-occupied Donetsk came under shelling on Dec. 21, according to the publication. Several explosions were heard in the Voroshylovskyi district of the city, leading to the emergence of smoke in the campus area on the same day, eyewitnesses say. Local Telegram channels are publishing photos and videos showing smoke.
Following the shelling, a fire broke out in the vicinity of the university's third building, housing amilitary department and formerly occupied by the Russian Sparta battalion, ND reported.
The occupiers might still be present in the DonNTU building. The publication noted that this area has faced repeated shelling since the commencement of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian occupation authorities have not yet commented on the situation in Donetsk.
