Reports that Fire Point director Denys Shtilerman had been
targeted in an assassination attempt surfaced online on Oct. 1. Journalist
Sergey Auslender first reported the
claim, citing his own sources.
Auslender claimed Shtilerman suffered a minor injury and
that his bodyguard was killed. He also claimed the attackers were killed.
The Fire Point CEO briefly addressed
the reports: “Rumors of my death or the death of my bodyguards are slightly
exaggerated.”
Fire Point’s press service, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, called social media
reports of an assassination attempt on Shtilerman “fabricated.”
Earlier, in an interview with the Pressing YouTube channel,
Shtilerman said his
personal security measures had changed because of his public profile. He said
he does not spend two consecutive nights in the same place.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
