A fire continues at an oil refinery in Russia’s Samara Oblast after a nighttime drone attack, local residents reported to the Astra public channel on Aug. 28.
“Two fire centers are visible in the area of the Kuibyshev refinery,” a commentary on the released footage said.
Earlier on the morning of Aug. 28, the governor of Samara Oblast, commenting on the UAV raid, said that “the fire that broke out was extinguished in the shortest possible time,” and operational services “quickly and efficiently eliminated the consequences” of the attack. He did not specify the exact location or cause of the fire.
On the night of Aug. 28, drones struck two oil refineries in Russia — the Afipsky refinery in the Krasnodar Territory and the Kuibyshevsky refinery in Samara Oblast.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces confirmed the strikes on the refineries and other facilities, reporting that the attacks were carried out by units of the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces.
“The enterprise produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oils, and solvents — in total, more than 30 types of petroleum products. Its processing capacity is 7 million tons of oil per year. Explosions and a fire were recorded on the territory of the plant,” the General Staff said regarding the attack on the Kuibyshev refinery.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
