Six days in: Crews struggle to contain fires at Chornobyl NPP after Russian drone attack
Efforts to eliminate the consequences of a Russian drone strike on the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (CNPP) continue, the State Emergency Service (SES) reported on Telegram on Feb. 19, posting video and photos from the site.
Firefighters are continuously working to fully extinguish small fires that are still smoldering after the strike.
Radiation levels remain within normal limits, and no radioactive material has been released beyond established safety limits.
On Feb. 14, a Russian drone punctured the roof of the New Safe Confinement, a massive arched structure that covers the old sarcophagus of CNPP's destroyed fourth reactor, preventing the spread of radioactive material. IAEA experts observed smoke rising from the roof of the shelter and detected the smell of burning plastic.
