First day of Ukraine–U.S.–Russia talks in Geneva concludes

The Ukrainian, U.S., and Russian delegations
in Geneva have concluded the political phase of talks for the day by 8:00
p.m. Kyiv time, Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne reported on Feb. 17.
The military working group continued its sessions. National security advisers from the UK and France participated in consultations, as well as an adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, a German government official told the broadcaster.
CNN, citing a source, said both the political and military groups were expected to reconvene the morning of Feb. 18.
The talks in Geneva on Feb. 17–18 are a trilateral effort involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia focused on finding a peace settlement acceptable to both Kyiv and Moscow. Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said the agenda includes security and humanitarian issues.
On Feb. 16, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the
Geneva talks would cover a “broader range of issues” than earlier meetings in
Abu Dhabi, including territorial questions. A report by the Institute for the
Study of War said the Kremlin was unlikely to abandon its initial wartime
demands during the Geneva discussions.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
