Five kindergartens among 40 buildings damaged in devastating Russian missile attack on Odesa
Five kindergartens were among the over 40 buildings left severely damaged in the aftermath of the horrifying Russian missile attack on Odesa in the early hours of July23, Odesa City’s Council said on Telegram.
Currently, municipal services are working at all affected locations to assess and address the damages.11 educational institutions in the city were affected, including the five kindergartens, said Olena Buinevych, the Department of Education director.
In total, 17 injured persons were admitted to hospital, but as of 11 a.m. on July 23, three individuals were still under medical care, said Odesa governor, Oleh Kiper, on Telegram.
Among the injured is a 17-year-old boy whose condition is reported as critical, but stable. He suffered a penetrating chest wound and is currently receiving intensive care at a medical facility.
Medical professionals treating the wounded have noted that the majority of injuries are caused by glass fragments, with one patient even having a piece of metal retrieved from their body.
The appalling missile attack, originating from Russian territory, deliberately targeted Odesa’s historic center and involved the use of cluster munitions. The merciless assault has resulted in the complete destruction of the Transfiguration Cathedral and several other historic and residential buildings.
The attack killed at least one person and injured 22, including four children.
