Kharkiv woman accused of forcing migrants to work for food on her farm
Police have charged a local resident in Kharkiv Oblast with human trafficking for allegedly luring migrants to her farm and forcing them to work for food, according to the National Police on Aug. 17.
The suspect lured migrants, mostly at railway and bus stations and markets in Kharkiv Oblast, by offering work on her farm, according to police.
Once there, they lived in unsanitary conditions with inadequate food, police said. During a search, officers found three victims: a 50-year-old woman and two men, aged 59 and 56.
The farm owner has been charged with human trafficking under part 2 of Article 149 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code and faces five to 12 years in prison.
