Three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets were struck by
“friendly fire” from Kuwaiti air defenses and lost over Kuwait during Operation
Epic Fury against Iran, U.S. Central Command said in a statement
on March 2.
All six crew members ejected and are in stable condition.
The circumstances of the incident are under investigation, and additional
details will be released as they become available, CENTCOM said.
“Kuwait has acknowledged this incident and we are grateful to
Kuwaiti defense forces for their efforts and their support in this ongoing
operation,” the command said.
CNN earlier reported that a fighter jet — likely an F-15 —
crashed in Kuwait near a U.S. base.
“Footage shows the aircraft burning and spiraling downward,”
CNN reported. The network said the jet went down about 10 kilometers (6.2
miles) from the U.S. Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
On March 2, The
Times of Israel reported that video circulating on social media appeared to
show the moment of the F-15 crash.
Israel and the United States launched operations codenamed
“Roar of the Lion” by Israel and “Epic Fury” by the United States on Feb. 28,
2026.
Multiple explosions were reported in Tehran and several
other major Iranian cities. It was reported that the strikes targeted the
residences of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, as
well as Iranian military and nuclear facilities.
In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel.
Iranian missiles also targeted Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain,
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, with reports of strikes on U.S. military
bases.
