Frontline situation getting worse in various directions — Yuriy Butusov
Yuriy Butusov, editor-in-chief of the online publication Cenzor.net, said in an interview with Radio NV that the situation at the front is worsening in many sectors.
"The situation at the front is worsening in many directions. It is very difficult, and everything is holding up only because commanders, junior officers, sergeants, and soldiers are taking the initiative and using modern warfare tactics to destroy the Russian occupiers," Butusov said on Radio NV.
The situation on the frontline as of the end of May 2024
A report by the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) published on May 31 indicated that Russian forces may be planning to launch the second phase of their offensive in northern Kharkiv Oblast if they capture Vovchansk. However, new forces might be needed due to counterattacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On May 30, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that Russia is increasing its troop presence, but these forces are insufficient for a full-scale offensive and breakthrough in the Kharkiv region.
On May 30, Dmytro Pletenchuk, head of the Strategic Communications Center of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, announced that Russian troops, after a long pause, resumed attacks on Nestryha Island in the Kherson Oblast.
On May 25, DeepState analysts reported that Russian forces advanced near Arkhanhelske and Umanske, close to Ocheretyne. They also noted progress in Klishchiivka.
On May 22, ISW reported that Russia used operations in northern Kharkiv Oblast to intensify a dangerous offensive on Chasiv Yar.
The Ukrainian military warns that if Russia captures Chasiv Yar, they may advance on Kostyantynivka, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk.
