New video reveals devastation in frontline Toretsk under relentless Russian shelling
A rare video of the frontline town of Toretsk in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast being wiped out by Russian shelling was shot by soldiers of the 32nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and posted by its press service on Facebook on July 11.
It shows multi-story apartment buildings and private houses
flattened to the ground, and captures explosions after glide bombs hit.
“This is what the city looks like now. This is what the ‘Russian
world’ is bringing to our land,” the comment to the video says, noting that the
Ukrainian infantry, artillery, tank forces, and intelligence are working to
their limits day and night to repel enemy attacks and prevent the seizure of
key streets in the town.
This follows a recent report by the Ukrainian General Staff
of a significant intensification of the offensive by Russian forces in
the Toretsk sector.
On July 4, analysts from the DeepState monitoring group reported that Russian forces had seized several locations in Donetsk Oblast, including Sokil and Voskhod, and had made advances in Sotnytskyi Kozachok, Pivdenne, and near the towns of Druzhba, Yevhenivka, and Novopokrovske.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
