German lawmakers slam Scholz's delay in supporting Ukraine with aid package
Johann Wadeful, deputy leader of the German CDU/CSU parliamentary faction, expressed support for a potential aid package for Ukraine while criticizing Chancellor Olaf Scholz for his hesitation, German broadcaster ntv reported on Jan. 14.
"We are ready, but the chancellor must know what he wants," Johann Wadeful said, adding that Scholz was "going back and forth" on the issue. Wadeful argued that any hesitation only encouraged Vladimir Putin to continue his actions.
On Jan. 13, Scholz rejected accusations that he was blocking increased military aid to Ukraine, emphasizing he was unwilling to cut savings in other areas to fund more arms deliveries.
On Jan. 10, reports emerged that Scholz was blocking a new €3 billion aid package for Ukraine, despite support for it from Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
