Germany has delivered a new batch of weapons to Ukraine, including eight Leopard 1A5 tanks, the German government’s press service reported on July 29.
The new aid package includes:
- 8 Leopard 1A5 tanks
- 22,000 rounds of ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns
- 10 surface drones
- 2 Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicles with spare parts
- 10 radars
- 16,810 combat helmets
- 1 field hospital
Germany is one of the leading European suppliers of military aid to Ukraine. The country has provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with various models of Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, IRIS-T and Patriot air defense systems, MARS II multiple launch rocket systems, Marder infantry fighting vehicles, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, as well as a significant amount of armored vehicles and other equipment.
Reuters, citing its sources, reported on May 21 that Germany plans to increase its military aid spending for Ukraine by EUR 3.8 billion ($4 billion) over the course of 2024.
The German government announced a new military aid package for Ukraine on June 14, which includes 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks, air defense systems, and HIMARS multiple-launch rocket systems.
Germany reportedly quietly sent military aid to Ukraine in late June and early July, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, and IRIS-T air defense systems.
