German MP promises Ukraine sustained support from Berlin
Ralf Stenger, a German MP from the Social Democratic Party (member of the ruling coalition), affirmed that Berlin’s support for Ukraine will not diminish under any circumstances, after a meeting with Ukrainian officials in Kyiv on Aug. 22.
This announcement came from the Ukrainian President’s Office following Stegner’s meeting with Iryna Mudra, the deputy head of the President’s Office.
The message notes that this was Stegner’s first visit to Ukraine in more than 10 years.
During the meeting, both parties discussed security, economic, diplomatic, and legal cooperation between Germany and Ukraine.
Mudra thanked the people and government of Germany for their unwavering support for Ukraine. She emphasized the importance of quickly establishing a legal reparations mechanism and a special international tribunal for Russia’s crimes of aggression.
In turn, Stegner welcomed Ukraine ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
He also supported directing Russia's frozen assets to help finance Ukraine’s immediate and post-war needs.
