German TV channel confuses Kyiv with Moscow
German TV channel Das Erste, the flagship national television channel of German public broadcaster ARD, during a live broadcast from Kyiv’s Independence Square confused the capitals of Russia and Ukraine by having the caption to the broadcast read: “Live Broadcast From Moscow”.
The mistake was not acknowledged during broadcast, with the presenter noting that a correspondent would speak from Kyiv, and with Kyiv’s city center clearly visible in the shot.
The corresponding video was uploaded to the channel's website, with the mistake still in place.
The broadcast was reporting on the visit of German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Kyiv on Feb. 7.
At the time of publication, the wrongly captioned video was still available on the channel's website.
