German, Ukrainian foreign ministers visit Odesa
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, visited Odesa on July 1.
The officials toured the city port and witnessed the damage from recent Russian air strikes, according to a statement from Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry.
“You have seen yet another tangible proof that Russia continues to undermine global food security,” Sybiha said.
“Providing Ukraine with additional air defense systems and developing joint arms production with our partners and domestic suppliers will allow us to save more lives and support global food stability in the interests of the entire international community.”
The two also examined the ruins of other civilian infrastructure in the city and discussed the region’s pressing needs with Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper.
In addition, the ministers met with Richard Reagan, the United Nations World Food Programme representative in Ukraine, to discuss Ukraine’s role in protecting global food security. Sybiha noted Germany’s financial contribution to the Grain from Ukraine program.
Wadephul arrived in Kyiv June 30. It was his first visit to Ukraine since taking office in May 2025. The minister said Germany will continue to support Ukraine despite Russian expectations that assistance might be reduced.
