Germans’ views on Ukraine and Russia continue shifting

The views of the German public on Ukraine and Russia have
shifted markedly since Russia's full-scale invasion, Anka
Feldhusen, a former German diplomat who now serves as Ukraine's business
ombudswoman, told NV on March 16.
According to a recent nationwide survey, in late 2025, 47 percent of Germans considered Russia a direct threat, up from 39 percent in 2024, Feldhusen said.
She said 56 percent now support stationing a German military contingent in Ukraine after a ceasefire, something that was unthinkable in Germany a few years ago, and nearly 60 percent consider arming Ukraine extremely important.
An INSA (Institute for New Social Answers) survey conducted in Germany Feb. 5-6 found that 52
percent of respondents said the United States and European countries should
provide Ukraine with greater military and financial support while Russia is not
willing to agree to a ceasefire and peace talks.
