Turkey intended to involve Russia in the Ukraine peace summit which took place last week in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, but Germany objected to inviting Moscow to the table, Turkish newspaper Hürriyet reported on Aug. 11.

The chief advisor of the Turkish president, Akif Çağatay Kılıç, represented Ankara at the meeting in Jeddah. According to the paper's sources, he asserted: if Russia "is not involved in finding a solution, there will neither be any results nor a solution."

Still, it is reported that Germany considers it inappropriate to include Russia in discussing potential solutions to the war in Ukraine at this point. Berlin believes that Russia "should join at the appropriate time."

The newspaper also suggests that the third round of negotiations on Ukraine's peace formula is likely to be held in Turkey.

On Aug. 5-6, the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia hosted two-day negotiations on the Ukrainian peace formula, with high-ranking officials and diplomats from approximately 40 countries participating. Among them were notably representatives from India and China. Russia, however, was not invited.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Ihor Zhovkva, reported that the goal of the negotiations in Jeddah was to convey points of the Ukrainian peace formula to the participating countries.

This was the second such meeting with the previous one taking place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in June.

The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, stated that all participating countries in the Saudi Arabia meeting demonstrated allegiance to the principles of the UN Charter and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
