German police searched an apartment in Hesse and seized a car used by a Ukrainian woman who is wanted in connection with an explosion in Monaco that injured Ukrainian businessman Vadim Iermolaev on June 29, Der Spiegel reported on July 3.

Der Spiegel cited a joint statement from the attorney general’s office, the Frankfurt am Main public prosecutor’s office, and the Hesse State Criminal Police Office.

“According to initial findings and investigations by the Monegasque law enforcement authorities, connections to Hesse had emerged,” the statement said.

Officers turned over the evidence to authorities in Monaco, the report said.

Interpol identifies the suspect as Anastasiia Berezovska, born in 1987 in Ukraine’s Luhansk Oblast. According to investigators, she traveled to Germany as a war refugee in March 2022 and lived for some time in a refugee shelter in Hesse. French security services say the 39-year-old has hunting experience and likely had access to legal firearms. She was recently registered in Hofheim am Taunus, authorities said.

Investigators suspect she did not act alone. They detained two men but released them after concluding they probably were not actively involved in the attack, Der Spiegel reported.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
