Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Sept. 6, a German government spokesperson said in a comment to AFP.

According to a report by Barron’s, Scholz will meet with the Ukrainian president "on Friday afternoon in Frankfurt."

Der Spiegel reported that Zelenskyy is also likely to visit the U.S. military base in Ramstein, where a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (the Ramstein format) is scheduled to take place on the same day.

Zelenskyy's presence aims to underscore the "seriousness of the situation" on the ground in Ukraine, according to journalists.

Previously, Spiegel reported that on the evening of Sept. 5, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov would meet with his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius, in Berlin. The discussions are expected to focus on whether Germany can provide Ukraine with additional arms packages in the coming months, given Berlin’s plans to cut state expenditures.
