Several Gulf states are looking to purchase
combat drones made by Ukraine’s Fire Point defense contractor, but the company is
still waiting on export licenses from the government, Fire Point co-founder and
chief designer Denys Shtilierman told
Reuters on April 6.
Shtilierman said the company has the monthly capacity to export as many as 2,500 long-range strike drones.
“Shtilierman also said Fire Point was awaiting government approval for an investment by a Middle Eastern conglomerate that valued the company at $2.5 billion and would open the door to new business opportunities, including low-orbit satellite launches,” Reuters wrote.
He said exports of the Flamingo cruise missiles are more complicated because of regulatory barriers. Fire Point says it produces hundreds of long‑range strike drones a day, at a production cost of about EUR50,000 each, and makes Flamingo missiles that cost about EUR600,000 apiece.
Shtilierman acknowledged some “bottlenecks” in missile production, particularly in engine manufacturing. He said Fire Point will boost Flamingo output after it begins serial production of a new in‑house engine in October and once a solid rocket fuel factory in Denmark comes online later this year.
Shtilierman also told Reuters that Fire Point aims to
develop its own air‑defense system by 2027 as a lower‑cost
alternative to the U.S. Patriot system.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
