Four wounded as gunman opens fire on draft officers in Odesa

A man opened fire on recruitment officers in Odesa while they were issuing draft notices, local outlet Dumskaya reported on August 2.
Updated at 11:21 p.m.: Police have arrested a 32-year-old man who is suspected of opening fire on TCC officers with a low-power, small-caliber handgun.
The weapon will be submitted for forensic examination, and the suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention.
Authorities have opened a formal criminal investigation into the incident, charging the suspect with obstructing the lawful activities of the Ukrainian military.
Updated at 11:00 p.m.: The Odesa Oblast Territorial Recruitment Center confirmed the attack and issued an official statement.
“On August 2, 2026, an unidentified individual opened fire on military personnel while they were issuing draft notices in Odesa, wounding four officers,” the statement read.
The TCC noted that the victims received necessary medical care. Investigators are currently working at the scene, and formal charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Updated at 9:50 p.m.: The Odesa Oblast National Police confirmed the incident.
Police clarified that they received reports of the shooting around 7:30 p.m. Investigators determined that an unidentified individual fired several shots from a handgun at recruitment officers while they were issuing draft notices.

Eye witnesses reported that the shooting took place on Kosmonavtiv Street.
Preliminary reports indicate that four recruitment officers were wounded in the shooting. One officer was hospitalized with a severe back wound, while three others later sought treatment for minor injuries.
