Hungary denies drone incursion into Ukrainian airspace

Hungary’s Defense Ministry denied sending any kind of UAVs to fly over Ukrainian territory, Hungarian news outlet Telex reported on Sept. 26.
Commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating earlier that a drone crossed into Ukrainian airspace from Hungary, the ministry said the report “does not correspond to reality.”
The ministry said it never conducted such drone flights nor received any orders to do so.
“We have not received any information from the Ukrainian side regarding such an incident, even though we maintain constant contact with them,” the statement added.
The ministry also noted that it informed NATO allies—and would continue to inform Ukraine—about the upcoming NATO military exercise Adaptive Hussars 2025, which runs in Hungary through mid-October.
Earlier the same day, Zelenskyy told reporters that Ukrainian forces had recently recorded what appeared to be Hungarian drones conducting reconnaissance near the border.
Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto sharply dismissed Zelenskyy’s allegation, saying the Ukrainian president “is starting to lose his mind.”
In May, Ukraine’s SBU security service announced it had uncovered the country’s first-ever espionage network linked to Hungary’s military intelligence operating in the Zakarpattya Oblast. Authorities said they detained two agents who had collected information on the region’s air defenses, military capabilities, and local attitudes toward a possible Hungarian military incursion.
