The Russian invaders probably threw all of their forces into capturing Lysychansk, suffering heavy losses, but continuing to advance, head of the Luhansk oblast military administration Serhiy Hayday said on July 3.

He said the Russians attacked Lysychansk using "incomprehensibly brutal tactics." Within a short period of time, they completely destroyed the administrative buildings, using a lot of manpower and weapons, he added.

“And this despite the destruction of several warehouses with enemy ammunition,” Hayday said.

“They suffer significant losses, but stubbornly move forward. They are gaining a foothold in the city, as well as in Vernyokamyanka, and continue to destroy settlements.”

The day before, first responders extinguished a fire in residential buildings, private houses, a store, and a shopping center. An injured woman was taken to a hospital in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The villages of Zolotarivka and Bilohorivka were also damaged as a result of Russian shelling.

The Russian offensive on Bilohorivka was repelled by Ukrainian forces.

The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has told Russian propaganda media that the invaders surrounded the Ukrainian military in Lysychansk on July 2. The National Guard denied these statements, saying that the city is not surrounded and that fierce battles continue near it.

According to the adviser to the head of the President's Office, Oleksiy Arestovych, Russian troops are located on the southern outskirts of Lysychansk.
